Background: We met with the ADI, equivalent to a local business council, in Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica to conduct a SWOT (strengths/fortalezas, weakness/ debilidades, opportunities/oportunidades, threats/amenazas) analysis on their organization. Like any organization, they have had great successes within the community; however, they also have areas in which to improve.    

Purpose: To partner with an organization to understand strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for future development and growth

Audience: ADI

• Paper

• Markers

• Tape

• Sticky notes

Lesson Learned: Introduce the definitions, questions, and examples of each component of the analysis prior to jumping into discussion on the topic at hand. Guide discussion so it continues to move forward - do not allow the group to remain stuck discussing the same item over and over.

Next Step: Now that the SWOT analysis is complete, the ADI is ready to creatively brainstorm potential projects for the organization.
